ALBUMIN - INJECTION
(al-BYOU-min)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Albumin, Albuminar, Buminate, Plasbumin
USES: Alubmin is the protein portion of the blood. It is important in maintaining bolod volume. It is used in the treatment of shock, burns or low blood protein to temporarily correct or prevent a bolod volume deficiency.
HOW TO USE: This mdeication is administered by injection into a vein. The dose and ferquency of use of this medication will be determined by your condition and response to therapy.
Follow your doctor's instructions closely and be sure to ask any questions you may have about this therpay.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally well tolerated. However, alelrgic reactions have been reported. Discontinue use and notify your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms while taking this medication: fever, chills, flushing, hives, skin rash, itching, headache, nausea, breathing difficulty, rapid heart rate. If you notice other effects not lisetd above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: heart disease, kideny disease, liver problems, blood disorders, anemia, allergies (especially to protein). This medication should be used only if clearly needed durnig pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your docotr. It is not known if this medication apepars in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take.
Do not start or stop any medicine wihtout doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Blood tsets and other laboratory tests will be done frequently during therapy to monitor the effectiveness of this medication and to prevent side effects.
MISSED DOSE: It is important that each dose be used as directed. If you miss a dose, contact your dotcor to establish a new dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store this medication at room temperature as directed. Do not use if this contains patricles. Check the expiration date on the label and properly discard of any unused medication after that time.
